We offer tours of our Carpinteria properties to groups and special request tours of the Sedgwick property.

School Tours

Shepherd Farms’ Experiential Learning Field Trips

“Student Farmer” may activities include:
•    Harvesting seasonal fruits and veggies (strawberries, carrots, lettuce, etc.)
•    Feeding Goats & Chickens
•    Touring the farm seeing how a variety of our crops grow
•    Seeing our Community Supported Agriculture program and helping to harvest or pack boxes
•    Eating farm-fresh snacks
•    Playing a variety of farm-based educational games

Cross-curricular standards will be integrated when possible with lessons about ecologically responsible farming and local food distribution Field Trip Days and Times

•    Thursday 9am-12:30 pm
Other days and times may be availeable by request Classes are welcome to eat lunch on our lawn after the tour

Cost and Logistics
•    $150/class of 28 students or less
•    One adult per 7 students need come with class to help supervise
•    Programs are intended for K-8th graders, although we can adapt the programs for older and younger groups.

Shepherd Farms’ Educator

  • Kjessie Rubke–BS Biology: Environmental Science/Natural History, Westmont College; MA Agriculture: Crop/Soil Science, Colorado State University; U.S. Peace Corps: Sustainable agriculture education in Lesotho; Garden Educator in local schools through the s’Cool Food Intiative

There will be  Shepherd Farms’ staff facilitating hands-on learning as they rotate through different farm stations
